What is UGC NET JRF Exam Pattern?

Earlier, UGC NET exam was conducted in pen & paper mode and there were three papers. In 2018 ugc revised the exam pattern & announced that there will be only two papers (paper I & paper II). In 2019, NTA revised the ugc net exam pattern again, stipulating that candidates must attempt both Paper 1 and Paper 2 within a single 3 hours timeframe. Until 2018, the papers were conducted separately. Paper I is common for all candidates, it covers topics like teaching & research aptitude, logical reasoning, general awareness and communication technology. Paper II is based on candidate's PG subject.

It must be rememberd that it is compulsory for aspirants to appear for both the papers in order to be eligible for JRF or Assistant Professor or Assistant Professor with admission to Ph.D. or admission to Ph.D. only. UGC NET Exam Pattern Highlights

Exam Date: UGC NET Exam is conducted twice a year, 1st in June and 2nd in December.
Exam Mode: The entrance test is organized in Online CBT mode.
Number of Papers: There are two papers for the exam – Paper I and Paper II.
Number of Questions: Total of 150 questions will be there in the exam paper. 50 questions in Paper I and 100 questions in Paper II.
Type of Questions: The question paper will contain multiple choice type questions.
Language Medium: The question paper will be available in the medium language of English and Hindi.
Time Duration: Paper I will be of 1 hour duration while Paper II will be of 2 hours.
Total Marks: Paper 1 will be of 100 marks and Paper II will be of 200 marks.
Marking Scheme: For every correct answer, 2 marks will be given. There will be no provision of negative marking for incorrect answer.

Exam pattern for paper I is such that the question paper will be divided into 10 sections as mentioned below:

Official website of NTA informs, "The questions in paper I will be generic in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate." Regarding paper-II, the website informs, "This will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. All the questions of Paper–II will be compulsory."

UGC NET Paper II Exam Pattern

In Paper-II of UGC NET Exam, there will be only Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). Let's have a look at the exam pattern for Paper-II in details:
